How this resolves

Closes: 23:59 SAST on 3 November 2026
Resolves: When the IEC publishes Buffalo City's seat allocation, usually within a week of 4 November.
Source: Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) official results and seat allocation
Rules: Resolves on the party allocated the most seats on the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality council by the IEC after the 4 November 2026 election. If two or more parties are allocated the same highest number of seats, the one with more proportional representation (PR) ballot votes in Buffalo City wins. "Another party" covers every party not listed by name. Independent candidates are not a party.
If the source is down: If the IEC results site is unavailable, use the IEC's official seat allocation as reported by at least two reputable South African news organisations.
If plans change: If the election is postponed, the market waits for the rescheduled vote. By-elections after the seat allocation do not count. Void if no seat allocation is published by 31 March 2027.
