Will Avengers: Doomsday take more than R44 million in its South African opening weekend?

How this resolves

Closes: 23:59 SAST on 14 December 2026
Resolves: When the South African opening-weekend figure is published, usually within a week of release.
Source: Opening-weekend box office in rand, as published by the film’s South African distributor or a major South African cinema chain (Ster-Kinekor or Nu Metro)
Rules: Yes if the published South African box office for Avengers: Doomsday’s opening weekend is more than R44,000,000. Exactly R44 million or less is No. The opening weekend is the figure the distributor or cinema chain publishes as the opening weekend, including any previews or early days it counts in that figure. Opening day alone, or a running total beyond the opening weekend, does not count. Use the first published rand figure. If the distributor and a cinema chain publish different figures, the distributor’s figure controls. If no rand figure is published but the distributor or a major cinema chain states that the film had South Africa’s biggest opening weekend ever, the market resolves Yes.
If the source is down: If neither the distributor nor a cinema chain publishes a rand figure within 14 days of release, use a figure reported by at least two reputable South African news organisations. If there is still none, the market is void.
If plans change: If the South African release date moves, the market is postponed to match. Void if the film is not released in South African cinemas by 31 March 2027.
